No contract. No follow-up. No explanation.

Just silence.

Let’s be clear – this isn’t just “bad luck” or “how things go in recruitment.”
This could be a legal breach of contract.

If you accepted it, that’s a contract.

In the UK, once you accept a clear, unconditional job offer – even just over email – that’s a binding agreement.
They don’t need to send you a fancy contract. You don’t need to start the job. If you said yes, you’ve got rights.

So when they ghost you after that? It’s not just unprofessional – they could owe you notice pay, and in some cases, compensation for what you lost.

And let’s be honest – it leaves you in a shitty position.

You turned down other roles.
Maybe you quit your last job.
You were counting on that money to pay your rent, feed your kids, sort your life.

And now you’re stuck, because some employer made a promise they didn’t care about keeping.

It’s a shitty thing to do – and they should be the ones under pressure. Not you.

Here’s what most people don’t know:

  • If the offer was unconditional and you accepted it, that’s a contract.
  • If they pull out with no proper reason, they’re likely in breach.
  • You may be entitled to notice pay (whatever was agreed – usually a week or more).
  • If you’ve lost out financially, you could claim damages.

What to do next:

  • Keep every email, screenshot, and message. You’ll need them if you challenge it.
  • Ask for a written explanation – make them put it on record.
  • Speak to ACAS or a solicitor if you’ve suffered a real loss – especially if you left another job for this.

You didn’t mess this up. They did.
And if they ghosted you after offering you a job, don’t stay quiet about it.
